| Tibet Cry of the Snow Lion |
Dir. Tom Peosay US 2003
Part political documentary and part travelogue, Cry of the Snow
Lion is loaded with rich imagery that captures the beauty and
vitality of the Tibetan landscape and culture: from rarely-seen rituals
in remote monasteries, to brothels and slums in the holy city of Lhasa,
to Himalayan peaks still traveled by nomadic yak caravans. Ten years in
the making and filmed during the director's many journeys throughout
Tibet and India, the film provides a wide perspective on Tibet's recent past.
The opinions and eye-witness accounts of activists, political prisoners,
the Dalai Lama and others are effectively combined with a rare collection
of undercover and archival images. Narrated by Martin Sheen, with voice-overs
by Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins and Ed Harris.(104m)
