An epic musical and Oscar nominee for Best Foreign film, Lagaan, stars Indian superstar Aamir Khan. The year is 1893 and India is under British occupation. In a small village, the tyrannical Captain Russell has imposed an unprecedented land tax (lagaan) on its citizens. Outraged, Bhuvan (Khan), a rebellious young farmer, rallies the villagers to publicly oppose the tax and challenge the captain to a bet. If the villagers can beat the British soldiers at a game of cricket Russell will forgive the lagaan for the next three years. If they lose, the lagaan will be tripled.
