Dir. Patrice Chereau France/GB 2001
Based on two short stories by Hanif Kureishi (My Beautiful Launderette) and directed by Patrice Chereau
(Queen Margot), Intimacy is a British riff on Last Tango In Paris. What happens when two strangers meet
for hot sexual trysts? Can they remain anonymous and not become emotionally involved? The trouble begins
when Jay (Mark Rylance), a divorced bar owner, starts to develop feelings for Claire (Kerry Fox), a
mysterious woman whom he is meeting for anonymous sex in his apartment. As Jay learns the truths of
Claire's life, their fantasy world is shattered. Intimacy asks heavy questions about hot-and-heavy
sex and the often attendant emotional intricacies. (119m)
