High Lonesome
Dir. Rachel Liebling US 1992
High Lonesome is the first comprehensive film about bluegrass music and is an abundantly rich document culturally and historically. Narrated by Mac Wiseman, the film explores the content of the music and its evolution from folk roots to modern forms, tracing the musical legacy of seminal figures Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Wiseman himself and innovative younger musicians including the Seldom Scene, Alison Krauss, and The Nashville Bluegrass Band, who carry on the bluegrass tradition and continue to shape its form.
