Dir. George Butler US 2000
The story of British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and the crew of his vessel
'The Endurance', is one of the 20th century's most astonishing adventure tales.
Shackleton sailed from England in 1914 with the goal of crossing the Antarctic
landmass by foot, but just short of their destination, the ship became stuck in ice,
leaving the men stranded. Shackleton led his crew on a two-year ordeal of hunger,
frustration, cold and unbelievable obstacles. The story is recreated with original
footage and negatives rescued from the sinking ship, and also through stories
related by descendants of the crew. Based on the recent book by Caroline Alexander,
and narrated by Liam Neeson. (93m)
