American Mullet
Dir. Jennifer Arnold US 2002
How has one hairstyle, worn by so many types of people, become so talked about and vilified? Magazine articles, web sites, books: the past few years have seen a proliferation of the mullet in the media. Business up front, party in the back, it's also known as the "bi-level," "hockey hair," "shlong" and "mud flap". American Mullet hits the road in search of those who wear mullets and asks them why, oh why? The subjects are as diverse as soccer players, Native Americans, lesbians, Mexicans, country music fans, and bikers. What do these folks have in common besides the mullet? Maybe nothing. Or maybe the desire to rebel and stand outside of the mainstream. (video:60m)
