| The Lord of the Rings |
Dir. Peter Jackson New Zealand/US 2001
In 1987 Cult Director Peter Jackson (Dead/Alive, Meet The Feebles, Heavenly Creatures)
completed Bad Taste. It was shot with a camcorder over
four years of weekends when his cast of friends was available.
Fifteen years later the Time Warner Corp., recognizing Great Talent
, let him loose with a 300 million dollar budget to film Tolkien's
classic epic. For those who didn't devour the books, an ancient
set of rings was forged for the kingdoms of Middle Earth-with one
additional ring secretly created by the dark lord Sauron to
rule over them all. Now a ragtag group of hobbits, men, dwarves,
and elves have united to return and destroy the One Ring in the
fiery Pits of Mordor, where it was created. Thwarting them are gnarly
orcs, terrifying ring wraiths, an evil wizard, and the corrupting
power of the precious ring itself. Starring Elijah Wood,
Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Cate Blanchett and Ian Holm. (178m)
