| Spun |
Dir. Jonas Akerlund US 2003
Drug culture has been a popular theme in contemporary film. Now the scrappy
little synthetic drug that could, speed, is taking it's turn in the spotlight.
Spun focuses on a bunch of jaw grinding, fast talking, paranoid tweakers on a
three day binge in SoCal. Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) plays Ross, a seemingly
normal guy who has one foot in his old life and the other in the grave. Unable
to keep his habit under wraps, Ross takes on the job of chauffeuring The Cook,
(Mickey Rourke), and his stripper girlfriend Nikki (Brittany Murphy) on various
outings, all the while snorting and talking...a lot. Reminiscent of Requiem
for a Dream, every time someone takes a bump, it's as if every synapse of the
brain cracks. With John Leguizamo, Deborah Harry and a score by Billy Corgan
of the Smashing Pumpkins. (96m)
