| Comedian |
Dir. Christian Charles US 2002
Seinfeld, the show, we were told endlessly until the words lost all meaning entirely, was about "nothing."
Seinfeld, the man, we learn courtesy of Comedian, is a questing workaholic neurotic who is certainly
about many things and is definitely about challenging himself as a professional. Instead of
allowing his most popular show on television to slowly sink in the mire of Neilson ratings,
Seinfeld did the unprecedented (at least for TV) act of quitting while on top. So what then for an encore?
Jerry decides to jettison his entire repertoire and create a new act from scratch. The film documents
all of the insecurity and backstage jitters that we would never expect from the world's most famous
comedian as he works the circuit like a fledgling comic. Making cameos are the who's who of comedy
including Chris Rock, Robert Klein, Ray Romano, Garry Shandling and Bill Cosby. (82m)
