Dir. Godfrey Reggio US 2002
This is the third film in director Reggio's 'Qatsi Trilogy'. The title of this wordless documentary is a Hopi
Indian word that can be translated as /war as a way of life'. Reggio constructs a pastiche of war scenes,
video games and digitally altered images both disturbing and beautiful to create a thought provoking
visual barrage. The idea that war has become our way of life is particularly poignant in this era, and
pictures of marching troops, bomb explosions and human misery are intercut with trademarks, such as the Enron logo.
With a distinctive score by Philip Glass and featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Naqoyqatsi
creates a kaleidoscopic view of the way we live now. (90m)
