Zero Day
Dir. Ben Coccio US 2003
Shot on digital video using imagined "found footage" from a video diary, Zero Day is an unsentimental, fictional account of two teenagers' preparations to carry out a Columbine-style massacre at their high school. The veritÈ style allows the audience a queasy intimacy with best friends Andre and Calvin, realistic, suburban teenagers of the digital age who proclaim themselves an "Army of Two". The film offers no easy explanations for the violence, but its creepy authenticity provides a window into modern adolescent nihilism. (92m)
