Tokyo Godfathers
Dir. Satoshi Kon Japan 2003
This time out director Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress) melds his lovingly detailed animation with a Hollywood style action-comedy. It's a snowy white Christmas in Tokyo when three homeless people - a middle-aged alcoholic, a runaway teenage girl and a flamboyant drag queen - discover an abandoned baby, Kiyoko, in a pile of trash. Kiyoko's three "godfathers" conjure up surprising strength when they embark upon a journey to find the baby's parents. Family is the theme here - the families we invent, the ones we lose and the ones that find us. (92m)
