| Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst |
Dir. Robert Stone US 2004
For those who grew up in the 70's the Patty Hearst kidnapping is as pervasive in our consciousness as Watergate and Vietnam. Guerilla re-tells the story of the Hearst kidnapping and the cultural and political climate from which it was born. The Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), a radical fringe group, captured the attention of the country by kidnapping the heiress to the largest media conglomorate in the U.S., creating national paranoia. Reminiscent of The Weather Underground, Guerilla focuses on how the Vietnam War led many disillusioned young people to try to dismantle the system by any means necessary. It is a reminder to those of us who lived through the 70's and a lesson for those who didn't that the current division in our country has roots that runs deep. (90m)
