Northfork
Dir. Michael Polish US 2003
The filmmaking team of brothers Michael & Mark Polish (Twin Falls, Idaho) are back with a surreal, visual masterpiece filled with symbolic references. The Polish brothers refer to Northfork as a film experiment in the literary style known as "magic realism". The story revolves around Northfork, Montana in 1955 which is about to be flooded because of the construction of a dam. Most of the town residents have fled but six remain, including Father Harlan (Nick Nolte) who is tending to a dying boy, who may be an angel or dreaming he is one. Although the filmmakers refrain from including a traditional story arc they do have an ark in the film that sits dramatically on the plains waiting to rescue the town residents from their fate. With James Woods, Daryl Hannah and Kyle MacLachlan.(94m)
