| Bartleby |
Dir. Jonathan Parker US 2002
Adapted from the Herman Melville novella, Bartleby will strike a chord in
anyone who has ever sat behind a desk in corporate hell. Crispin Glover, the
master of absurdist comedies, stars as the 19th century law-firm copyist
whose words, I would prefer not to,… affect his boss as profoundly as
Oliver Twist asking please, sir, may I have some more?…. Bartleby's
audacity to question the very nature of work is a rebel yell against the
deadening weight of making busy… in the office place. Although set in the
19th century, Bartleby is an apt critique of the alienation of our
contemporary sterile cubicles. With Joe Piscopo, Glenne Headly and Seymour
Cassel. (82m)
