James Franco stars as young Allen Ginsberg, poet and chronicler of the Beat Generation. In his leave-nothing-out style, Ginsberg recounts the road trips, love affairs, and search for liberation that led to the most timeless and electrifying work of his career: the poem HOWL. Itís San Francisco in 1957, and this American masterpiece is on trial. Prosecutor Ralph McIntosh (David Strathairn) sets out to prove that the book should be banned, while suave defense attorney Jake Ehrlich (Jon Hamm) argues for freedom of speech and creative expression.
Howl features mind-expanding animation designed by artist Eric Drooker that are as original as the poem itself. Drooker, who collaborated with Ginsberg on his final book, Illuminated Poems, will be presenting a short slide show and a Q&A about his work on the film after the 7:15 show on Friday!!
