Repo Man
Dir. Alex Cox US 1984
Alienated teens, televangically brainwashed parents, generically-labelled food, the CIA and UFOs collide in this 1980's punk/sci-fi satire. Repo Man is one of those enduring cult classics that's up there with top 80's films like Blade Runner, Brazil, Tron and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Director Alex Cox (Sid and Nancy, Straight to Hell) had a pitch perfect sense of the Reagan years in L.A., where bored and frustrated teens were reveling in the heyday of punk. Otto (Emilio Estevez), is a punk whose life is on the skids when he meets Bud (Harry Dean Stanton), a grizzled old repo man who wants to repossess a Chevy Malibu - which turns out to have something alien and atomic in the trunk. Featuring one of the all-time great rock soundtracks, with music by Circle Jerks, Black Flagg, The Plugz, Suicidal Tendencies and Iggy Pop. (92m)
