Breakfast At Tiffany's
Dir. Blake Edwards US 1961
Based on Truman Capote's novella, Breakfast at Tiffany's remains the romantic ode to N.Y.C. and is probably the reason why many young women have moved there over the years. Audrey Hepburn stars as the swan-necked socialite, Holly Golightly, escaping her small-town Texas roots for a never-ending Manhattan cocktail party. George Peppard plays Paul, the aspiring author who is being kept by an older woman (Patricia Neal) and moves in next door to Holly. Paul is swept into Holly's whirlwind and eventually falls in love with her. Holly on the other hand, refuses to have anyone dependent on her, including her cat, Cat. Hepburn is the definition of urban 60's chic in her black cocktail dress, wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and cigarette holder. The classic score is provided by Henry Mancini and features Johnny Mercer's hit sung Moon River sung by Hepburn on a fire escape while strumming a guitar. (114m)
