Dir. Eilona Ariel & Ayelet Menahemi India/Israel 1997
Doing Time,... documents the introduction of Vipassana meditation to one of the world's largest prisons, Tihar Jail in New Delhi, India, with an inmate population of 10,000. This compelling film chronicles how a meditation program for inmates transformed the jail. Through interviews with the warden, guards and inmates, it explores how Vipassana changes people's behavior and character for the better. The film suggests that Vipassana could be an effective tool for the rehabilitation of inmates around the world. Recently a Vipassana meditation program has been started at the S.F.County Jail.
