| Harvard Beats Yale 29 - 29 |
Dir. Kevin Rafferty US 2008
In 1968, against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy, the undefeated football teams of Harvard and Yale meet for their final game of the season. Yale is heavily favored. Their fullback is dating Meryl Streep; the tackle is George Bush’s roommate; and Garry Trudeau has just started his Doonesbury Comic strip in the Yale Daily News with characters based on the teams’ players. Meanwhile, Harvard has only one returning offensive lineman, Tommy Lee Jones (who happens to be Al Gore’s roommate). But as the game proceeds, the action becomes wildly unpredictable. An extraordinary retelling of one of the most famous college football games in history, Kevin Rafferty’s film combines rare period footage with unguarded, politically-charged recollections from the original players, and the result is an edge-of-your-seat thriller.
